What makes dehydrated skin different from dry Skin

Dry skin is a natural skin type that occurs due to fewer oil glands available on the body and dehydrated skin is a condition that occurs due to a lack of water in the skin cells

Identify the difference: dehydrated skin verse dry Skin

Dry skin is a skin type that lacks oil and is accompanied by itchiness, flakes, and cracks and it’s often persistent whereas dehydrated skin is a condition that lacks water accompanied by lack of Elasticity, Inflammation, Fine lines, Discoloration and any skin type can be prone to dehydration. It’s a temporary condition that can be quickly corrected.

What causes the Dry Skin

Dry skin is an outcome of a lack of oil in the skin tissue. This is often due to hormones, genetics, dry environment, age, lifestyle, and medical conditions. Sometimes harsh skincare products can strip the excessive oil from the skin.

How to Manage the Dry Skin

Minimizing the effects of dry skin requires less exposure to extreme weather, use skincare products that restore the lipid barrier, specially emollients, and Humectant, occlusive. Emollients are lubricators that can prevent water loss. For example, plant oils such as rosehip, pomegranate, squalane, etc. Humectants are ingredients that have the quality to attract water from the environment into your skin. For example, the best humectants are glycerine, hyaluronic acid, sorbitol, sodium PCA, and lactic acid. Occlusive ingredients have the quality to build a cover over your skin in order to prevent water loss and add additional oils to your skin. Occlusive ingredients usually contain waxes, oils, and silicones. Some examples are shea butter, beeswax, lecithin, and cholesterol.

Dry and Dehydrated skin can be managed by adopting healthy habits and a proper skincare routine.

Healthy Habits – Stay hydrated, nourish your body with healthy food, avoid sun exposure, and avoid hot water baths.

Protect your skin barrier – It’s important to protect the skin barrier as a damaged skin barrier is prone to lose oil, water results in dehydration, and skin sensitivity.

Choose Cleanser carefully – Choosing the right cleanser makes a huge difference. Cleanser with harsh chemicals strips away the excess oil and makes the skin lose oil and physical exfoliator can damage the skin barrier. Oil-based formula is a good choice over foaming cleanser for dry skin type. Similarly to exfoliate the skin, choose lactic acid over a physical exfoliator for dry skin.

Choose Moisturizer Carefully – The choice of moisturizer would depend on the skin. If you have less oil in the skin tissue then you would need an oil-based moisturizer whereas dehydrated skin is lack water so a light moisturizer would work.
